Nottingham Forest have signed Huddersfield Town defender Harry Toffolo.
Toffolo, a standout performer for Huddersfield in the Championship last year, will have the chance to compete for a starting spot for Nottingham Forest in the Premier League.
The Athletic reports that because the 26-year-olds contract at Huddersfield was set to expire next summer, Forest were allowed to sign him for a reduced fee.
Toffolo made over 90 appearances for Huddersfield, helping the Terriers finish third in the Championship last year despite narrowly losing to Forest in the play-off final.
The left-back scored six goals and registered seven assists during the 2021/22 Championship campaign, with five goals and one assist coming in the final nine games of the season, pushing Huddersfield up the table.
How will Toffolo fit in at Forest?
Similar to Steve Cooper at Forest, former Huddersfield head coach Carlos Corberán was very accommodating with formation changes.
Throughout his tenure as manager, Corberán frequently went with a back three, and Toffolo would play farther up the field at left wing-back, which is the precise kind of left-back Cooper is looking for.
Only one Huddersfield player completed more open play crosses and passes in the opponent's box during the previous season's Championship than Toffolo did for his team.
As well as showing prominence going forwards through his passing ability, this translates into goal involvements as only Daniel Ward and Sorba Thomas had more Huddersfield goals and assists than Toffolo last season.
This season, Toffolo and Omar Richards will compete for a starting left-back spot, giving Forest a wonderful degree of depth in that position with two quality wing-backs giving it their utmost to secure the position.
